In Loving Memory of Walter "Skip" Fehlman Skip Fehlman, a devoted family patriarch, passionate craftsman, and beloved member of his community, passed away unexpectedly from a heart attack on Saturday, May 3, at the age of 88. Skip’s life was one of adventure, generosity, and unwavering love for those around him. Whether he was restoring boats, casting a fishing line, or sharing laughter with friends and family, Skip lived with a spirit of joy and kindness that touched everyone he met. Skip is survived by his two sons, Dennis and Mark, his son-in-law Dan Hergenroder (spouse to Dennis), and his daughter-in-law Diane Fehlman (spouse to Mark). He was a proud grandfather to Luna, Bryce, Alexa (husband Elrich), David (fiancée Lindsay) and Matthew and great grandfather to Avery and Beckham who will forever cherish his warmth, wisdom, and playful spirit. Skip was also a devoted brother to Marylyn Bieke and brother-in-law to Joe Bieke (deceased). His 5 nieces and 3 nephews will always remember his infectious smile, his legendary boat rides, and the way he made every gathering feel special. Born in Detroit in 1936, Skip grew up on a farm in Anchorville before enlisting in the Navy in 1954. After his service, he met the love of his life, Karilyn, and they married in 1964, building a life filled with love, laughter, and adventure. Together, they raised their two sons and created their forever home in Fair Haven that became a place of warmth and cherished memories for more than 50 years. Skip was more than a neighbor—he was a pillar of his community. He dedicated himself to serving others as a volunteer firefighter, a member of the Township Water Board, and an active Goodfellow, bringing joy to underprivileged children every Christmas. His generosity, kindness, and commitment to helping others defined his life and left an indelible mark on those who knew him. Skip embraced life with enthusiasm, always on the move, traveling, visiting friends, and taking Sunday drives with no particular destination—just the joy of the journey. His presence brought light and laughter, and his memory will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
