Robert L. White

It is with deep and heavy sadness that we announce the death of Robert Leroy White, who passed on November 7, 2018, in Troy Beaumont Hospital. Bob was born in Detroit in 1938, son of Chester and Irene (Krym) White, moving to the Upper Peninsula and living in Chassell, Michigan for most of his childhood. He learned the importance of hard work during those young years and would continue to demonstrate that work ethic throughout his life. Bob loved to play sports, especially basketball where he played on the Chassell Panthers 1956-1957 Class D State championship basketball team. He proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1962 to 1964. He married the love of his life, Nancy Tahtinen, September 4, 1965 and they moved from the U.P. to the Troy area. He worked in construction and drove gravel train proudly serving his union brothers as a union steward for many years. He owned a snow plowing business, but he always made sure his kids shoveled his driveway by hand. Bob will be remembered as the greatest husband, dad, papa and friend that ever lived. He could dance the entire night away with the love his life, Nancy; he would do anything to make sure his kids smiled and knew they were loved. He cherished his grandchildren more than life itself and would have done anything to have one more conversation with them or see their smiling faces. He was a friend to anyone and lived a life where “No one is a stranger”. He could tell stories for hours with a smile on his face and a twinkle in his beautiful blue eyes. He loved to play jokes on his friends, laugh often and much and made us all realize that the simple things in life matter the most. We will miss his jokes, infectious smile, and his kind and compassionate spirit. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Nancy; his daughter, Michelle and son-in-law, Paul Cote; his daughter, Debbie and son-in-law, Greg Gasko; his son, Kevin; grandchildren Joe, Austin, Lexy, Zach and Sydney; his brother, John and sister-in-law Faye White; niece, Theresa; nephews, Brian and Jim. He was preceded in death by his father, Chester; his mother Irene; his sister Marlene and brother-in-law, Francis Belleville. The family will receive friends and relatives on Saturday, November 24, 2018 from 9 am until 9:30 am Funeral Mass at St. Anastasia Church located at 4571 John R, Troy Michigan, 48085.
