Richard S. Lenik

Richard S. Lenik (75), of Algonac, Michigan, passed away peacefully in his home on February 5, 2023, after time spent with loved ones. Rick was born September 13, 1947, in Detroit, to Stanley and Elizabeth Lenik. A proud American, he served his country before starting a successful 43-year career in the Utilities Industry with DTE Energy. In 1972, Rick married his ‘first wife,’ Linda. Soon after, he bought his first and forever home, fulfilling his dream of living on Anchor Bay Drive. Rick and Linda went on to have two children Addy (Massaglia) and Jennifer (Laux). Rick and Linda were married nearly 52 years. Rick was a true family man and All-American dad. He was the biggest (and loudest) cheerleader at games, meets, concerts, and horse shows. He never missed an important event. Rick lived for summers, always filled with camping trips, endless days boating and fishing in Lake St. Clair, and relaxing nights around the campfire. Rick and Linda were active members of Belvidere Boat Club, where he was lovingly known as ‘The Yachtsman.’ They enjoyed time spent on the BBC island and exploring the Great Lakes with their boating family. In recent years, Rick spent the winter months in Florida with Linda and his late brother Frank ‘Butchie,’ welcoming many friends and family members also trying to escape the cold. Shortly after he retired, Rick became ‘Papa’ to Violet and Sloan (Massaglia). Always hands-on, he played dress-up, hosted tea parties to rival royalty, and arranged secret trips for ice cream. Papa is a role he was born to play. Rick fought his battle with cancer for eight years. Despite the toll it took on him, he never lost his sense of humor. Throughout his journey he cracked jokes with family, nurses, and doctors, befriending much of the hospital staff along the way. He had an amazing ability to connect with others and make people laugh. His sense of humor will be greatly missed. Rick was pre-deceased by his parents Stanley and Elizabeth, brother Frank ‘Butchie’ (Carol), and sister Gail (David). He is survived by his loving wife Linda, daughters Addy (Mike) and Jennifer (Christopher), and granddaughters Violet and Sloan. A celebration of life will be held Saturday, February 25, 2023, at 1:00 pm at Golden Hawk Golf Course and Banquet Center. 9861 Meisner Rd Casco, MI 48064.
