Philip Daniel Chirio December 3, 1956 - January 18, 2026 On the morning of January 18th, our beloved father, husband, brother, son, friend, and Pop Pop, Philip Chirio passed away peacefully in his sleep. The Good Lord called him home to rest before we were ready. Philip is survived by the love of his life, Angela (nee Fracassa), his Daughters Theresa Fournier (Joseph), Laura Chirio (Trey), his grandsons Joseph, Alexander, Giovanni and Philip, his mother Barbra Chirio, sisters Michele Hoxie (Brian), Anne Logan (Bryan), his brother David (Cole), as well as his Fracassa in-laws and outlaws, his nieces, nephews, and adopted family. In his passing, Phil joins his father Michael, father-in-law Angelo, mother-in-law Anne, his 3 brothers Christopher, Paul, Larry, and little sister Patti in heavenly and eternal rest. Phil was a second-generation Army Officer, a paratrooper, parachute rigger, and logistician. Above all else, he was a family man. To know Phil was to know his family. He was the absolute proudest husband, Dad, coach, and Pop Pop. Philip left his family absolutely rich in generational wealth of love, a love that transcends death and generations. He left an inheritance that can never be spent, taken away, argued over, or taxed. A boundless wealth of love, and a legacy of service and constant presence. In a world that so often confuses loudness with power, Phil taught us what true strength and leadership really looks like. Often a quiet man, he modeled calm in chaos; he listened more than he spoke, and when he spoke, it mattered. He was a solid resting ground during the hardest parts of life and our greatest champion throughout our highest joy. He was present through every mountaintop, every valley, and everything in between. Although our hearts desired for his time on earth to be longer, we find a quiet security knowing that he was greeted with family love and perfect and total peace when he reached St. Peter’s Gates. Well done, good and faithful servant. Well done. Decorations MAJ Chirio’s decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal (Oak Leaf Cluster), Army Achievement Medal (Oak Leaf Cluster) the National Defense Service Medal, the Southwest Asia Service Medal (Bronze Star Device), the Army Service Ribbon, Airborne wings, the Parachutist Badge, the Parachute Rigger Badge, and French (Brevet Militaire de Parachutiste) and German Paratrooper Wings. Arrangements Family and friends of Phil’s will gather for a memorial visitation on Thursday February 12, 2026 at the Wasik Funeral Home, 35295 23 Mile Road, New Baltimore, MI 48047 from 2-8 pm. Prayer & Share service at 6:30pm Funeral services will be held on Friday February 13th at St Mary’s Queen of Creation Church (where Phil and Angela renewed their vows for their 30th wedding anniversary) at 50931 Maria St. New Baltimore, MI 48047. Visitation at the church at 10am and funeral mass at 10:30am. A luncheon will be held following the funeral mass at 12:30pm at the VFW Post at 35011 23 Mile Road, New Baltimore, MI 48047. Memorial Donations In honor of MAJ (Ret) Chirio’s legacy, commitment to service, oath to the Constitution, and love of family, the Chirio family is asking that donations (or toys and books) be made to the 1171st Medical Company’s Family Readiness Group in lieu of flowers. Memorial donations can be made to Angela Chirio and a consolidation of funds (cash and checks) will be sent directly to the Soldiers and Family Members of the 1171st Medical Company. Phil was a big supporter of this Michigan Army National Guard Family Readiness Group because of his daughter Laura and would be so proud of this gift.
