Nancy Sumner

Nancy Sumner, age 88, passed away on September 2, 2026. She was born on November 29,1937, in Detroit, Michigan, and was a proud graduate of Pershing High School. Nancy was a devoted wife, loving mother, beloved aunt, cherished sister, and proud grandmother. She lived her life with a generous heart, always putting others before herself. If there was one thing that defined Nancy, it was that she gave and gave and gave. Her kindness, compassion, and unconditional love left an imprint on everyone fortunate enough to have known her. Nancy was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 62 years, Ronnie R. Sumner, who passed away on December 13, 2025, at the age of 91. She was also preceded in death by her father, Niels Frederiksen; her mother, Alice Winstanley; her brother, Eddie; and her sister, Norma. She was the loving and devoted mother of Scott (Cynthia) Sumner, Staci (Chris) Haney, and Kari (Don) Broussard. Nancy was a proud and loving grandmother to Hannah Sumner, Emily Sumner, Karli Monahan, and Mitchell Monahan, and a treasured step-grandmother to Brittany, Tyler, and Kyle. Her greatest joy was her family and the center of her life, and she treasured every moment spent with them. Nancy embraced life with enthusiasm and gratitude. She loved feeling the warm sunshine on her face and the wind in her hair, whether she was boating while spending her time at her cottage in Caseville, Michigan for over 40 years or relaxing on a beach in Florida. For more than 23 years, she was a dedicated member of Lifetime Fitness in Rochester Hills, where she enjoyed water aerobics and the friendships, she made with her “Arora” friends. She also loved spending time at the Older Persons Commission (OPC), where she learned new card games and sharing laughter with friends. Nancy truly lived every second of every day. She never let a day pass without finding joy, showing love and making the most of every moment. Her warmth, generosity, and vibrant spirit will be remembered always by those whose lives she touched. She will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten. While her family grieves her loss, they find comfort in imagining Nancy once again taking Ronnie’s hand. After nearly a lifetime together, they are reunited, walking hand in hand for eternity.
