Lawrence J. Gallagher

Lawrence J. Gallagher, 79, passed away unexpectedly on August 30, 2026. Born September 5, 1946, in Washington, D.C., Larry was the son of Joseph Francis Gallagher and Rita Boyd Gallagher and grew up alongside his six siblings. Larry proudly served his country for 20 years in the United States Army, including assignments overseas. It was while stationed in Iran that he met Yevgene, the woman who would become his wife and lifelong partner. Larry and Yevgene were married for 58 years, building a life together centered on family, friendship, and taking care of one another. Following his retirement from the Army, Larry worked for Raytheon before eventually joining his son Joe at The Sports Academy and Michigan Burn. To the generations of young athletes and families who came through the soccer academy, he was simply and affectionately known as “Mr. G.” Children adored Mr. G, and he adored them right back. From the youngest players just beginning the game to teenagers who had grown up around the academy, seemingly everyone knew him. His smile, humor, kindness, and genuine interest in people made him a beloved presence. His loss is felt not only by his family and friends, but throughout the community of children, parents, coaches, and families whose lives he touched over the years. Larry loved his family deeply. He was a devoted father to his children, Joseph and Shirley, and a proud grandfather to his grandson, Connor. He loved animals and nature, golf, fishing, sports, and especially watching the birds around his home. He and Yevgene shared a love of gardening and together created beautiful flower gardens that brought them great joy. He was also an enthusiastic novice gold miner, forever hopeful that the next search might finally uncover his big pot of gold. Those who knew Larry will remember his humor, his smile, his gentleness, and the way he made friends wherever he went. He was a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, proud veteran, treasured “Mr. G,” and, quite simply, a good and kind man. Larry is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Yevgene Gallagher; his children, Joseph and Shirley; his grandson, Connor; and his six siblings. Memorial Visitation for Larry will be from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Friday, September 4, 2026 at the Wasik Funeral Home - Gendernalik Chapel, located at 35259-23 Mile Road in New Baltimore. There will be a Memorial Service at 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
