Mrs. Jeanne M. Doran

Jeanne Marie Doran passed away Saturday, May 18th, at St. John Oakland Hospital in Madison Heights, Michigan. Jeanne was born on June 9, 1930 to Kenneth V. and Frances (nee Webber) Martinie and grew up in Allerton, IL where she graduated Valedictorian from Allerton Community High School in the Class of 1948. After high school, Jeanne went on to the Lake View Hospital School of Nursing, Class of ’51, in Danville, IL and spent time in Palo Alto, CA working as a registered nurse before deciding to specialize in anesthesia – and pursue advanced certification in the early days of nursing anesthesia being offered at the Mount Carmel Mercy Hospital Detroit Program of Nurse Anesthesia (now University of Detroit Mercy) in Detroit, MI. At the time, Detroit was one of only a few select locations in the country offering anesthesia certification programs that for the profession today has become a Masters degree-level CRNA requirement. While in Detroit, Jeanne quickly became active in the community and joined the GAYMAC (Get Acquainted Young & Meet a Catholic) bowling association where she met and fell in love with Tom Doran – getting married 11 months from meeting him and quickly starting a family in Detroit after marrying him August 6, 1960. She was an active parishioner at St. Benedict Catholic Church, where all of her four children went to grade school, serving as President of the St. Benedict Women’s Club multiple times and attending all of her children’s sporting events and activities. Throughout her life, she had a passion and love for sports and competition; and she was a dedicated sports enthusiast for all of the Detroit sports’ teams (particularly the Pistons and the Wings). Playing cards, watching her favorite television shows, reading a good book and enjoying time with her family and grandchildren became her focus over the years. Jeanne is the beloved wife of 52 years to Thomas Patrick Doran; dear mother of Mary Elizabeth Doran, Thomas Joseph (Ann Marie) Doran, James Michael (Bonnie Lynn) Doran and Therese Marie (Sean Francis) Gallagher; and loving grandmother of Thomas Liam and Mary Ginger Doran. Jeanne is further survived by brothers and sisters-in-law, as well as several nieces and nephews; and she is predeceased by her parents and her brother Kenneth G. (Jean) Martinie.
