Adam Stanley Mack

Palm Desert - Adam Stanley Mick, age 85, passed away January 29, 2018 in Palm Desert, California. He was born February 14, 1932 in Detroit, Michigan to Adam Mick and Mary Fortuna. He was an alumnus of St. Florian High School, earned a Bachelor's degree at the University of Michigan and a Master's Degree in School Counseling from Wayne State University. He grew up in Hamtramck, lived in Grosse Pointe Shores, Michigan and upon retirement moved to Palm Desert, California. Adam was loving and proud of his children and family. He is survived by his sister, Frances Karwowski of Saint Clair Shores, his daughter, Susan Mick of Jackson, Wyoming, and sons Michael Mick and Mark (Janet) Mick of Chesterfield Township, Michigan. He adored and is survived by his grandchildren, Justin Mick, Katie Mick and Sloane Gordon. He was a fun-loving uncle to Cheryl Hansen, Nancy Weber, and Andrew Ciko. He was preceded in death by his parents, stepfather Joseph Fortuna, sister Virginia Rucker, nephews Joseph and Thomas Swanic, and grandson Sawyer Gordon. Adam had many passions and lived a diverse life. He served in the United States Army achieving the rank of Lieutenant Colonel and was a veteran of the Korean War. He took great pride in his service to his country. He was a Michigan educator for forty years, and found his calling as a career counselor at Macomb County Community College. In California he was a marketing ambassador for the Palm Springs Follies allowing him to work with people and be part of show business. He loved to sing and enjoyed providing entertainment through his karaoke performances whenever given the chance. He was a die-hard University of Michigan sports fan and loved being active in sports through playing in his younger years, refereeing in mid-life, and always watching. At Adam's request, there will be a memorial at St. Florian Catholic Church, 2323 Poland Street in Hamtramck, Michigan on April 28, 2018 at 10 a.m. A Memorial Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. A private interment will be held at Great Lakes National Cemetery located in Holly, Michigan. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to the Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) Scholarship Fund providing educational assistance for children of military families.
