August 23, 1941 - November 23, 2021
Thomas J. Wolshon, of Chesterfield, passed away November 23, 2021 at the age of 80. He was born August 23, 1941 in Detroit, Michigan to Leo and Genevieve Wolshon. Tom spent 56+ years loving and doing everything he could for his wife. It was this love completely attitude, that his children saw and installed in them, our love your spouse completely and do everything you can for them. 55 years ago Tom's love started changing as he had kids and they became his world, he worked hard to give them the best life that he could. If that meant long days, working out of town or out of the country, he worked for his family. Once the grandkids starting showing up, this is where you truly saw the love this man had. He loved his grandkids. He did not know how to say no to them. He has shown a love from a grandparent that his family had never saw in any other grandparent. "Grandpa can I try the cookie on the table?" "of course" "that was a good cookie" "ok, take them all home and have them" "Grandpa, I am getting ready for college but it's expensive, can you help me with a down payment or co-sign?" "Where do I Sign?" His one granddaughter loves Raspberry Kalakis and every time his son went to Hamtramck he made sure to tell him to get her a pound of them. Didn't matter if he was already getting 3 pounds, you get her her own box! "Hey grandpa, I got suspended from school" "you dumbshit, what did you do?" "well let's go to the cottage for a week" "ok let's go" Harley, his little wrestler. He loved to watch her wrestle and would travel the state to see her in competition and brag to everyone about his granddaughter beating up the boys. There are many many more examples of this mans love, pure 100% love for his family. But these are just a few. What started as 2 people loving each other and making that vow of love in front of God, turned into 56+ years of love being shown and given to: 1 wife, 4 kids, 10 grandkids and 8 great grandkids (the first 2 sharing his birthday). His son added, "What did this man teach me, he taught me so so so much. But the greatest thing he ever taught me, you can't learn in a book, you can't be forced to do. He taught me how to LOVE and that Family is everything." Tom is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Gerri. Devoted father of Celia (Kurt) Walschlager, Karen Long, Betty (Kevin) Wolgast and Thomas (Cindi) Wolshon. Proud grandpa of Megan Sandborn, Katie (Ryan) Rubin, Matthew Walschlager, Gregory and Rachael Long; Amber, Amanda and Brendan Wolgast; and Kylie and Harley Wolshon. Loving great grandpa of Mackenzie and Jaxon Long; Brantly, Brooklyn and Bennet Sandborn; Shelby, Jason and Brinley Rubin and the late Benjamin Sandborn. Tom is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews and friends. Family and friends will gather on Monday at 9 a.m. until an 11 a.m. Funeral Mass at St. Malachy Catholic Church, 14115 14 Mile Rd. (between Schoenherr and Hayes) Sterling Heights. In lieu of flowers memorial donations addressed to the American Diabetes Association are preferred.
