John Michael Lonczynski

October 22, 1959 - November 7, 2020

John Michael Lonczynski was born in Detroit on October 22, 1959 to John Frank and Marion (nee Malczewski) Lonczynski. John passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on Saturday November 7, 2020 at Huntsville Medical Center in Huntsville, Alabama. John was a proud United States Army veteran having served our country in Operation Desert Shield. John retired from the Army as a Staff Sargent having earned the Army Commendation Medal 4th Award, Army Achievement Medal 4th Award, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Valorous Unit Award, Professional Development ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Southwest Asia Service Medal with 3 bronze stars. Following his career in the United States Army John used the skills that he acquired in his years in service to his country to pursue a career as a civilian contractor for the United Sates Army. John was a very proud and active 25 year member of the Masons having served 2 terms as Grand Master. John also contributed his time to organizations like the American Legion as well as to the Wounded Warrior Foundation. John is the beloved father of Michael and David Lonczynski. Godfather of the late Kerri Wojciechowski. Loving brother of Barbara (the late Dennis) Zwirner, Thomas (Peggy) Lonczynski, Janice (the late Stephen) Christophel, Richard (Sharon) Lonczynski, Kathleen (Larry) Wojciechowski, Daniel (fiancé Patty) Lonczynski, and Andrea (Michael) Gould. Dearest uncle to several nieces and nephews. Funeral services for John will take place at the Wasik Funeral Home, Inc. 49150 Schoenherr Rd. (n. of 22 Mile Rd.), Shelby Twp, on Monday at 12:30 PM with visitation starting at 10 AM. Interment will be at Resurrection Cemetery in Clinton Township. Due to the current health crisis the service at the funeral home will be limited to John’s most immediate family. As limits are less restrictive in outdoor settings all are welcome to attend the committal service and United States Army Military Honors at Resurrection Cemetery 18201 Clinton River Road (corner of 17 Mile) at 1:30. ***In accordance with directives from the CDC and state and local health departments all attendees of John’s services at the funeral home will be required to wear a mask or facial covering. Attendance will be limited to no more than 50 people at a time. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.***
