Shagufta Samuel

Shagufta Samuel, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away surrounded by the love of her family. Born on October 28, 1957, in Gujranwala, Pakistan, she was the cherished daughter of Joseph and Haleema Baldev. One of nine children, Shagufta grew up in a home filled with strong personalities, deep faith, and enduring bonds. She was preceded in death by all of her siblings except her beloved brother, Irfan Cyril, who survives her. Shagufta graduated from Lucy Harrison Girls High School in 1973, a milestone reflecting her dedication to education, hard work, and personal ambition. On January 22, 1988, she married her life partner, Samson Samuel, beginning a companionship defined by respect, faith, and unwavering devotion. Those who knew Shagufta will never forget her extraordinary kindness and the way she instinctively cared for others. Her humor — often laced with a perfect touch of sarcasm — brought joy and laughter wherever she went. She lived with honesty, worked tirelessly without complaint, and gave generously, often in ways known only to those she helped. She had a selflessness that was quiet, steady, and profound. Her greatest joy and proudest accomplishment were her children, Shyran Llewellyn and Sharoon Samuel. She poured her heart into raising them with love, wisdom, and unwavering support. She also lovingly welcomed her son-in-law, David Llewellyn, as part of her family, cherishing him as her own. That love grew even deeper with the arrival of her grandchildren, each of whom brought her immense happiness: Oziah Joseph Llewellyn, Elsie Rae Llewellyn, and Alyza Irene Llewellyn. To them, she was not only a grandmother but a source of comfort, delight, and boundless affection. Shagufta’s absence leaves a deep ache in all who loved her. We miss her warmth, her laughter, her sharp wit, and her quiet acts of care that shaped our days in ways big and small. Yet we carry her with us — in the values she instilled, the memories she created, and the love she freely gave. Her legacy lives on in her children and grandchildren, in the kindness she showed to others, and in the example she set of living with grace, generosity, and humor. Though she has left this world, her spirit remains a constant presence, reminding us to love deeply, give freely, and find light even in difficult moments. May her soul rest in eternal peace.
