Sandra G. Rizzo

Sandra Germaine Rizzo, affectionately known as ‘Sandy’, was was born on November 26th, 1960 in Detroit, Michigan to her parents Geraldine (Kasler) and the late Matthew Fleming. She grew up in Roseville with her Mom, Dad and older brother Denny (d. 2003) where she graduated from Carl Brablec in 1978. While in high school, she met and eventually married the love of her life, Mark Rizzo. Together, over 36 incredible years, they built a life full of happiness and memories. They welcomed 3 lovely daughters, Amy (Jeff) Peterson, Amanda (Dan) Ryan, and Allyson Rizzo and became the proud grandparents of Olivia, Matthew and Daniel. She married into a family who accepted her with open arms and loved her as their own, including her father and mother-in law, Vincent and Georgina (d. 2014) Rizzo, two sister-in-laws Regina (Michael) Soroka, Teressa (Darin) Farough and many nieces and nephews who love her dearly, Rachel (Jeremy) Bois, Carole (Jeffrey) Enger, Michael Soroka, Zachary, Tristan and Evan Farough. She is also loved by many cousins, friends and extended family. To try and summarize Sandy in a few short lines is impossible - her life was a quote, a poem and a song - every part of it had meaning and purpose. She lived as fiercely as she loved and to know her meant that your world was a better and brighter place. Her family and friends were important to her and you were always greeted with a smile and a hug. She never forgot a birthday and always found time to call and catch up, share big news, congratulate you or just say hello. Although she fought courageously, she lost her battle to cancer on November 17th, 2017 at the young age of 56. She is no longer in pain and is currently spending time with beloved family and making new friends in heaven. Her legacy will live on through her smart, strong, beautiful and independent daughters and her loving husband. We can honor Sandy by sharing stories, smiling more, hugging more and by spreading kindness and joy to those around us.
