Robert John Pietras

Robert John Pietras, known affectionately as Bob, passed away on April 25, 2024, in his hometown of Shelby Township at the age of 88. Born on July 21, 1935, he was the son of the late Stanley and Rose Pietras. Bob was raised in the Detroit area (Hamtramck, Detroit, and Warren), graduating from St. Florian High School before proudly serving his country for six years in the U.S. Army. Following his military service, Bob found a fulfilling career at General Motors, where he dedicated himself for 30 years before retiring. On the personal side, he married and had a son, David. Later in life he found his true love with Dolores, marrying her in 1972. They settled in St. Clair Shores, relishing the many family parties they hosted, the frequent visits from their grandchildren, and their backyard garden that always had snap peas for the kids. A gentle soul with a hearty laugh, Bob fiercely loved and supported his wife, Dolores, for an incredible 48 years. A gifted dancer, he loved twirling her on the dance floor. Bob's adoration extended to his grandchildren, where he embraced his goofy side and doted on them wholeheartedly. Bob always had a hearty appetite and enjoyed his wife’s and stepdaughter’s cooking, and more importantly he had a wicked sweet tooth. The story goes that during his grandchildren's younger years, Bob would heroically interrupt dinner to chase down the ice cream truck, ensuring a sweet treat for everyone. This dedication to indulgence continued later in life, with Bob being known to devour an entire carton of ice cream in one sitting! A loyal fan of the Detroit Tigers and Red Wings, Bob relished unwinding with a cold Black Label or Busch beer after a hard day's work. He enjoyed friendly sports debates, always offering his insightful commentary. Above all, Bob's life embodied a dedication to family and a deep appreciation for life's simple pleasures. He is now reunited with his beloved Dolores, son David, parents, and siblings (Julius, Don, Ray, Theresa, and Rita) and you can bet a big Polish feast is happening above. He leaves behind a loving stepdaughter, Gerry (Tom) Sliter, sister-in-law Barbara Pietras, nieces Lisa (Mark) Zurek and Mary Ann Lapinski, and cherished grandchildren: Michelle (Tim), Laurie (Matt), Daniel, Andrew, and Matthew. His legacy also includes six great-grandchildren: Jacob, Sydney, Josh, Ryan, Jenna, and Alex. Rest easy Bob/Grandpa - we will always carry your memory in our hearts. Visitation for Bob will be held on Monday, April 29, 2024 from 2-6 pm. There will be a scripture service for him at 5:00 pm at Wasik Funeral Home, Shelby Twp. ( 49150 Schoenherr Rd.) Bob will be laid to rest at a later date at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, MI.
