Marilyn Elizabeth Daraban

Marilyn ‘Nern’ Elizabeth Daraban of Utica, Michigan peacefully passed away on April 20th, 2026 at the age of 77surrounded by her family and an immense amount of love. She was born in Detroit, Michigan on June 20th, 1948 to Walker and Caroline Hardesty, and was the beloved wife of Larry Daraban, her husband and partner of 63 years. Preceded in death by her eldest son Richard ‘Ricky’ Daraban, her parents Walker and Caroline Hardesty, her younger sister Kimberly Gregarick, and her brother-in-law Tim Beltowski. Marilyn is survived by Richard’s son and her eldest grandchild, Cody (Breann) Darabanand their daughter Isabella and his siblings Seth and Stella Werling; her son John (Melanie) Daraban and their children Elizabeth, Joseph, Maria and Alexander; and her daughter Lisa (Scott) Barger and their children Jenica (Aaron Bazzel), Mitchell, Guienevere, Nataliya and Carston. Loving sister of Sharon Beltowski; sister-in-law to Jerry Daraban and his wife Cathy, and Sandy John and her husband Roger. Lifelong best friend of Beverly Koch. Lovingly known as Granny and Grandma to her twelve grandchildren, and beloved Aunt Nern to many, many nieces and nephews. The pillar of her family, Marilyn filled the lives of those around her with laughter, love, and countless cherished memories. Her intuitive humor, sharp wit, and charm endeared her to all who had the pleasure of knowing her and has left a lasting impression that will be with them always. While she had a unique ability to make others laugh, it is her empathetic and caring nature that leaves an everlasting mark on everyone she met. Her front door was always open to those she loved, and her home was the setting of many family gatherings, from birthdays and Christmas to graduation celebrations and neighborhood block parties. Marilyn found joy in simple pleasures of life—a senior coffee with triple cream from Tim Hortons, her favorite cashword scratch-off tickets, nights at the casino with her best friend, and the company of her favorite people. In her passing, we are reminded of the profound impact that one life can have on the world—a legacy not measured by years, but by the love and joy she shared with other people. Marilyn will be dearly missed yet remembered fondly by all who had the honor of knowing her. May her soul rest in eternal peace. Tú eres el amor del cual yo tengo. Family and friends are invited to show their respects on Friday April 24th, 2026 at Wasik Funeral Home in Shelby Township, Michigan. Visitation will be held from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM, with a Scripture Service at 7:00 PM. A final farewell will begin with an instate at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Utica, Michigan on Saturday April 25th, 2026 at 9:30 AM, followed by Mass at 10:00 AM and repast after.
