Lawrence E. Pokropowicz

Lawrence "Larry" Pokropowicz, of Eastpointe, passed away Saturday, March 29, 2025 at the age of 94. He was born June 23, 1930 in Detroit, Michigan to Joseph and Annette (nee Merchel) Pokropowicz. Larry is a proud United States Army Veteran serving in the Korean War. After returning from serving his country, Larry began and spent his entire career working for and retiring from the Wayne County Road Commission. Larry worked in several areas and had held many job titles through the years. Larry loved to be Up North and spending time at Crystal Lake and Cedarville as well as other places along the way. He enjoyed being outdoors walking, riding his bike, and especially fishing. He also enjoyed bowling and liked to sit around and play euchre with whomever was around and willing. Larry was a kind and giving man. He spent most of his adult life donating blood whenever he was able to. He was proud to be able to donate and often times was able to give large amounts in the hopes he was selflessly helping others in need. Of all the hobbies in his life, Larry's greatest joy came when spending time with his family. He was his grandkid's greatest supporter and always enjoyed listening to their latest accomplishments in their lives. There will truly be an absence at all gatherings with Larry not physically being there and the memories that have been made will forever remain in all of their hearts. Larry was known by family as being a "shot and a beer guy." One can be certain that his legacy will be carried on and when the family gets together many "coffee royals" will be drank in his memory and honor. On August 31, 1957, Larry married the love of his life, Judy Vitali at St. Lawrence Catholic Church. Together they spent almost 59 years together, raising 2 children, welcoming their spouses and joyfully watching their family grow with 5 grandchildren. Larry was predeceased by his beloved wife, Judy on October 12, 2016. He is survived by his loving daughter, Karen (Larry) Sacharski and dear son, Lawrence (Gail) Pokropowicz. He is the proud grandpa of Joe (Sarah Smith) Sacharski, Kelly (fiance Ryan Masica) Sacharski and Megan, Emily and Matthew Pokropowicz. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by his siblings, Richard (the late Rose Marie) Pokropowicz and Dolores (the late Louis) Garavaglia. Visitation for Larry will be held on Thursday from 2-8 p.m. at the Wasik Funeral Home, Inc., 11470 Thirteen Mile Road (west of Hoover) Warren. There will be a funeral service on Friday 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Larry will be layed to rest with his wife at Resurrection Cemetery in Clinton Township.
