June Cynthia Wagner

June Cynthia Wagner, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 23, 2026 in Shelby Township, Michigan. June was born on May 13, 1954 in Kenmore, New York, just outside of Buffalo. The youngest of three siblings, she grew up in Kenmore attending Kenmore West Senior High School, graduating in 1972. She went on to earn her degree from Erie Community College and attended Buffalo State University. Labor day weekend 1976, June met Joel, a West Seneca, New York native, at the Sunset Bay Beach Club on the shores of Lake Erie. They married on September 23, 1978, in Buffalo, New York and eventually made their home in Michigan, where they built a life together and raised their beautiful family in Shelby Township. June’s greatest pride and joy in her life were her daughters, Jennifer and Ashley. She poured her heart and soul into raising them, always encouraging them, guiding them, and cheering them on. She was present for every school event, volunteered in their classrooms, and supported every activity they pursued. She had them in dance, gymnastics, basketball, volleyball, and softball never missing a single recital, practice, or game. From the time they were 4 years old through their collegiate years, she was always in the crowd, proudly cheering her girls on. And her support never stopped there. June guided and encouraged Jennifer and Ashley through college, graduate school, their professional careers and eventually into motherhood. Becoming a grandmother to four beautiful grandchildren brought her a new and immeasurable joy. She enjoyed every moment with them and was endlessly proud of the women and mothers her daughters had become. June’s first and most important career was raising her daughters. Once they reached school age, wanting to be present for the girls and their activities, she began working in Utica Community Schools. She spent many years teaching and shaping the lives of countless students, with her creativity, optimism, and compassion. Her love for learning was a defining part of who she was, but it was always surpassed by her devotion to her family, whom she treasured above all else. June was the glue that held her family close. She created traditions, brought everyone together, and made staying connected a priority. Weekly family dinners, countless phone calls with her girls everyday, holiday gatherings, vacations, and special outings were all part of the life she so intentionally created. She loved to travel, and some of the family’s happiest memories were made together on vacations and many cruises throughout the Caribbean. She especially treasured time with Jennifer and Ashley—whether it was a spa day, a girls’ trip to New York City, or their annual Christmas shopping day at the Somerset Collection. June had a gift for turning ordinary moments into cherished memories. She was always creating traditions, bringing people together, and making sure her family had something special to look forward to. June was vibrant, healthy, stylish, and always on top of the next trend, whether in fashion or interior design. She had a special eye for things and a creative spirit that flourished into many parts of her life. She believed in enjoying life and made happiness a priority. She loved entertaining and had a remarkable talent for hosting the perfect party, whether it was a holiday celebration, a family gathering, or simply an occasion to bring the people she loved together. Her home was always welcoming, her table was always beautifully set, and her gatherings were filled with warmth, laughter, and love. After retirement, June and Joel created a beautiful second home and life together in Bonita Springs, Florida, where they spent their winters. They enjoyed the sunshine, the warm winter weather, and an active lifestyle. June loved riding her bike, walking, and doing water aerobics with her girlfriends. But her favorite place of all was the beach. She loved closing her eyes and listening to the sound of the ocean, walking along the beach, and searching for seashells. It was a place where she could simply be at peace. Jennifer and Ashley would travel down to Florida with their families multiple times each winter to spend time with June and Joel. All of those vacations over the years brought countless special moments and created so many family memories with the grandchildren who just adore Meme and Papa so much. Their home in Bonita Springs became their own little paradise. June is survived by her devoted husband of 48 years, Joel G. Wagner of Shelby Township, Michigan. Loving Daughters Jennifer Wagner-Rosbury (Howard) and Ashley Wagner-Waryszak (Greg). Cherished Meme (grandmother) of Brooks (8) and Kaelyn (5) Waryszak, and Camden (6) and Emersyn (3) Rosbury. Sister of Cathy (David) Joseph, Brothers-in-law, Ronald (Fran) Wagner, Donald (Bonnie) Wagner, and Sisters-in-laws, Marilyn (Ken) Rechlin and Judy Scheffler. June was preceded in death by her loving parents, Glen and Cynthia Scheffler and brother Stanley. Her legacy of love and kindness will forever remain in the hearts of those that knew her. A Memorial Visitation will be held at Wasik Funeral Home in Shelby Township, MI, on Wednesday, September 22nd, 2026, from 9:00 am to 11:00 am. June will be instate at St. Therese of Lisieux Catholic Church, also in Shelby Township, MI, from 11:30 am to 12:00 pm, followed by a Memorial Mass at 12:00 pm. Rest in peace, June.
