John William Madynski, Jr.

John W. Madynski, Jr., born February 4, 1948 in Detroit, Michigan, passed away on October 15, 2022 in Shelby Township, Michigan at the age of 74. Dear son of the late John and Evelyn (nee-Konieczki) Madynski. Loving brother of Gerard Madynski, Catherine (Mark) Iwanski, Mary Grace (Russ) Weill, Christopher (Lisa) Madynski and the late Jerome (Janice) Madynski. Dear uncle of Jeffrey (Nancy), Jeremy (Rachel), Jaimie (Andrew), Lance (Amy), Krystyna (Chris), Matthew (Sarah), Emily (Pat), Natalie, Joseph, Brandon, Marisa and great uncle of Thomas, Cassius, August, Griffin, Charles, Theodore, Ellis, Ruby, Anna, Luke S. and Luke B. John "Ricky/Scott" attended St. David’s Catholic School for 12 years, graduating in 1966. Until his passing, he continued the close friendship of many of those he met there. John was a skilled, certified automotive and diesel mechanic for 42 years. He earned his first of many training diplomas in 1969 through the Michigan Career Institute, in Advanced Automotive Mechanics. John began his career working at Dick Green on Gratiot Ave. He worked for 13 years for the city of Detroit and was with the SMART Bus system for 18 years. He was never late, and rarely missed a day. He retired in 2008. He loved tinkering with cars from a young age on and for years major auto repairs were his hobby. In fact, he meticulously tended to his 1973 classic White Plymouth Satellite Sebring. John enjoyed a simple life, always disciplined with his savings. He was proud of the new home he recently built and especially his three-car garage. He loved fishing and his many vacations were centered around it. He was a Lions fan. He enjoyed and would only listen to Oldies and Doo Wop music. He faithfully practiced the drums to 1950’s music from a young age on. He treasured the vintage Lionel train set from his childhood and displayed it with pride. Not a big drinker but always had a cold beer in the fridge for himself or guests. He truly appreciated a hot meal with a steaming cup of coffee and often planned his day around them. Never a cook himself but always an appreciative diner. He liked almost everything, Polish food, a fresh fish dinner and anything chocolate, were his favorites. What gave John the greatest pleasure however was his large extended family. He had an especially easy way with children and babies, knowing just what to say to delight them or make them pause and think. You could always count on John to try to fill a room with laughter. Visitation for John will be on Friday from 4-8 pm with a 7 pm Scripture service at the Wasik Funeral Home, Inc. Instate Saturday from 9:30 am until 10 am funeral mass at St. Paul of Tarsus Church 41300 Romeo Plank Rd. (Clinton Township) Memorial Donations may be made to John's favorite charity: St. Vincent DePaul Society.
