John Cyril Abood

John C. Abood, of Macomb Township, Michigan, passed away peacefully on July 12, 2026, at the age of 76. Born on December 25, 1949, in Detroit, Michigan, John was the beloved son of the late John I. Abood and Caroline Abood. John was, above all else, a devoted family man. His greatest joy in life was his wife, children, and grandchildren, and he never missed an opportunity to be present for those he loved. Weather cheering from the sidelines at his grandson‘s events at the Academy of the Sacred Heart in Bloomfield Hills, or simply spending quiet time with his family, John made everyone around him, feel loved and supported. A proud graduate of De La Salle Collegiate High School and Wayne State University, John built a long career as a claims adjuster in the automobile insurance industry. He approached both his work and his personal life with fairness, integrity, and compassion. John was actively involved in his community and cherish the friendship he made through St. Therese of Lisieux Catholic Church, and Academy of the Sacred Heart, as well as the Milford Seniors, Highland Township Seniors, and Richardson Community Senior Center groups. He had a remarkable gift for making others feel like family. Many of his children’s friends, and countless others throughout the years, came to know John as a second father, always ready with encouragement, guidance, and a helping hand. Long before it became common place, John believed in campaigning and empowering women treating everyone with dignity, respect, and equality. He led by example, showing kindness without expectation and generosity without hesitation. His heart was always open to those in need. John will also be remembered for his warm embraces and affectionate nature. He was a true snuggler, whose hugs brought comfort, reassurance, and unconditional love to those fortunate enough to receive one. Visitation on Thursday, July 23, from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m., at Wasik Funeral Home, 49150 Schoenherr Road (north of 22 Mile Road), Shelby Township. John will lie in state on Friday, July 24, beginning at 9:30 a.m. until the 10:00 a.m. Funeral Mass at St. Therese of Lisieux Catholic Church, 48115 Schoenherr Road (north of 21 Mile Road), Shelby Township. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Clinton Township.
