Gerald Joseph Lewczak

Gerald “Jerry” Lewczak, born June 26, 1936 in Detroit, Michigan to Joseph and Margaret Lewczak, passed away on August 20, 2026 at Henry Ford Hospital in Clinton Township at the age of 90. Jerry was the beloved husband of Carolyn (Delinski), with whom he shared 65 wonderful years of marriage. He was the loving father of Susan (David) Wilkinson and Sharon (Glenn) Wilson, and the very proud “JerryPa” of Brianna (Joe) Wilkinson-Horsch, Troy Wilkinson, Trevor Wilkinson, Justin Wilson, Melissa Wilson, and Brett Wilson. He was the dear brother-in-law of Joanie (the late George) Theofanopoulos. For many years, Jerry was the proud owner of Lewczak's Lunchbox Kowalski Deli in Utica, Michigan. He took great pride in his Polish heritage, and some of his favorite traditions centered around the kitchen and sharing good food with the people he loved. Making homemade pierogi and pączki with his family became a treasured tradition. Jerry was also well known for his hardboiled eggs and grated horseradish Easter side dish, a tradition started by his dad. These are the specialties that his family and friends will fondly remember. Jerry enjoyed a good game of pinochle or poker and looked forward to trips to the Windsor casino with the senior group from his church. A lifelong Detroit sports fan, he faithfully followed the Detroit Lions and Detroit Tigers through the good seasons and the not-so-good ones. His Catholic faith was an important part of Jerry’s life. He was a founding member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Shelby Township where he was heavily involved as a long time usher and a member of the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus. He remained devoted to his faith and church community throughout his life. Jerry also had a special place in his heart for dogs. They certainly knew where to find him when they wanted a treat, as he was rarely able to resist giving them one. Above all else, Jerry was a family man. Nothing brought him greater pride or happiness than his children and grandchildren. The traditions he created, the faith he lived, and the love he had for his family will remain an enduring part of his legacy. Jerry will lie instate on Thursday, September 10, 2026 from 9:30 a.m. until the time of his 10:00 a.m. Memorial Mass at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 54045 Schoenherr Road (north of 24 Mile Road), Shelby Township. Entombment will take place at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions, in Jerry’s memory, may be directed to the Capuchins.
