Frances Barnwell

Frances Barnwell (nee Bakos), aged 83, longtime resident of Chesterfield, Michigan, passed away peacefully at her home on January 9, 2025. Frances was born in Pennsylvania in 1941. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert “Bob” E. Barnwell, her parents Michael and Kathryn Bakos, and her brother, Rudy Velosky, Sr. Frances and Bob were married in 1966 and their love and loyalty to one another was unmatched. She was a dedicated and faithful mother, and is survived by her children: Camille (Joseph) Culver, Renee (Jeffrey) Theisen, Robert Barnwell, Kevin (Aimee) Barnwell, and Eric (Kristen) Barnwell. She was a loving and devoted grandmother to Morgan, London, Hailey, Zachary, Harper, Kathryn, Jonathon, Jordan, and Eric. She adored her great-grandson, Kenzo, and he brought out her brightest smile. She is also survived by her sisters, Mary (Richard) Konieczny and Carol Ostrowski. Fran was small, mighty, and the glue that held the Barnwell family together. She lived a life of giving to others and tirelessly took care of every family member or friend in need. You never quite knew what she was thinking, but you knew she would be there without judgment or question when you needed her. She loved going on cruises with her husband before his passing. Fran was “old school” and canned jellies, tomatoes, relish, beets, peaches, pears and applesauce up until last fall. Many friends were recipients of these tasty homemade jars along with a variety of homemade cookies during the holiday season. Before retiring, Fran was a registered nurse who worked tirelessly and compassionately for over forty years, most of which were spent in the emergency room. She retired to use her nursing skills to care for her mother and husband. Frances, Mom, Grandma, and Great- Grandma, you will be forever in our hearts and we will always love you. Visitation will be Tuesday, January 14, 2025 from 3:00-8:00 pm at Wasik Funeral Home, 35259 - 23 Mile Road, New Baltimore, MI 48047. The funeral service will be held at 10:30 am at St. Mary’s Queen of Creation, 50931 Maria Street, New Baltimore, MI 48047. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in New Baltimore. In lieu of flowers, an expression of sympathy may be made to the American Diabetes Association .
