Edward H. Larkin

Beloved father, grandfather and great grandfather peacefully passed away Friday, March 1, 2019 at his winter home in Bradenton, Florida, age 94. Ed very much enjoyed his many friends and the community of Mt. Vernon over the course of 36 winters. Son of the late Ella May (nee Cunningham) and Robert Emmett Larkin, he was born at home on Parker Street, June 13, 1924 in Gardner, Massachusetts. He was the third of fourteen children. Graduated Gardner High School in 1942, where he was an accomplished runner on the cross country team, under mentor and coach, William Footrick. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII as a paratrooper in Europe. Graduated Lawrence Technological University and was employed by General Motors Fisher Body Division for 27 years as a Manufacturing Engineer. Ed married Eleanor Nichiporuk on October 29, 1943. She predeceased him on January 12, 2005. Surviving are three daughters and their spouses: Karen (Hardy) McWilliams of Mansfield, Texas, Deborah (Charles) Cutting of Austin, Texas, and Pamela (Allyn) MacKay of Grosse Pointe, Michigan. In addition to his daughters, he is survived by his dear companion of 12 years, Doris Miller, of Clinton Township, Michigan. Also surviving are cherished grandchildren: Melissa (McWilliams) and Ondrej Fojtik of Chicago, Illinois, Holly (McWilliams) and Sean Clark of Cedar Park, Texas, Jared (Crystal) Cutting of Lubbock, Texas, Megan (Cutting) and Steve Sallese of Grand Rapids, Michigan, and Leah and Paisley MacKay, of Grosse Pointe, Michigan. He is also survived by nine great-grandchildren: Eleanor, Bailey and Mallory Clark, Mia, Maxim and Beck Fojtik, Ember and Haddie Cutting, and Sage Sallese. He is survived by sisters: Eleanor, Florence (aka Mickey), Jane, Roberta (aka Bobbie), Mary, and Sandra. He was predeceased by siblings Robert, John, Mary, Helen (aka Pat), John, and Barbara. He is survived by sister-in-law, Lottie Cranford. Ed was dearly loved by those who knew him, and his sharp sense of humor and skillful card playing will be missed. He was a special dad, and always a gentleman to the women in his life. Family members would like to extend their gratitude to the staff at Tidewell Hospice, and Approved Home Health Care, of Bradenton, Florida for the care and support they have given. Friends may call at Wasik Funeral Home, 49150 Schoenherr Rd., Shelby Township, where the family will be present on Sunday, March 10, 2019 from 2 to 8 p.m. Military Ceremony and Celebration of Life will take place at 6 p.m. Committal service with Military Honors will take place Monday, March 11, 2019 at Great Lakes National Cemetery, 4200 Belford Road, Holly, Michigan at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to the Gary Sinise Foundation, PO Box 368 · Woodland Hills, CA · 91365.
