Donald Andrew Paul

Donald Andrew Paul passed away on February 18, 2024 at the age of 88. Donald was born in Detroit on April 22, 1935 to William and Mildred Paul. Don graduated from Visitation High School in Detroit in 1953. Upon graduation from school Don immediately entered the work force beginning his tenure at General Motors. This tenure was briefly interrupted by Don's service to our country. Don honorably entered the United States Army and served during the Korean War before being honorably discharged as a Spec 3 in 1957 and heading back to work at GM. Don worked for General Motors Corp. in the Argonaut Division retiring in 1994 after 41 years of dedicated service to GM. He was very proud of the fact that his job at GM had him traveling to 49 of the 50 states, only missing out on visiting Hawaii, to trouble shoot problems for GM. After his retirement from GM and not being one to sit around during his retirement Don spent many years working as an electrician for several small businesses and helping out friends and family in electrical jobs around their homes. Among some of these small businesses were Paff Sash and Door Company, Michigan Metal Craft, and Keith's Auto Sales. Don counted himself as being lucky enough to enjoy almost 30 years of retirement. When Don wasn't working, he loved being able to get out and hunt. He was an avid hunter traveling all across North America to hunt various game. Going along with his love of hunting was his passion for preserving the habitat for wildlife for the enjoyment of future generations. When he wasn't hunting Don filled his time pursuing his passion for golf. He played in several GM leagues while he was working and many more leagues consisting of other GM retirees. Don also loved to bowl carrying a 180 average and competing in many leagues across the city. More than anything Donald enjoyed spending time with his family. His children and grandchildren brought him great joy. He is the beloved husband of 53 years of Marlene Paul (nee Elias/Mattar). Loving father of Fred (Gail) Elias, Carol (Chris) McGraw, Donna (Al) Sharp, Mary (Mike) Zotos, Carla (Clark) Sands, Sherry Paul, the late Donald Paul, Jr., Connie Goans, and the late Colleen Allen. Also beloved father-in-law of Rocco Mistretta. Very proud grandfather of Rocco (Julie), Michelle (Wes), Allan (Brittany), Nicole (Eric), Jessica (Evan), Rebecca (Bryan), Jeffery (Megan), Christina (Chris), Anthony (Courtney), Fred John (Hannah), George (Nirvigna), Alexandra (Kyle), and Kathleen (Robert) and 39 great grandchildren. Donald was preceded in death by his parents William and Mildred Paul, his brother Gordon Paul, and his sisters Shirley Monarch and Ilene (Jim) Talbot. Visitation Thursday 2-8 PM with a 7 PM Scripture Service at the Wasik Funeral Home, Inc. 49150 Schoenherr Rd. (n. of 22 Mile Rd.), Shelby Twp. Instate Friday 10 AM until 11 AM Funeral Mass at St. Sharbel Maronite Catholic Church 43888 Hayes Rd. (n. of Canal), Clinton Township. Interment Resurrection Cemetery, Clinton Township.
