Donald R. Dickinson

Donald Ross Dickinson (77), of Chesterfield Twp., Michigan, passed away on February 24, 2023 due to complications from a long battle with dementia. Don was born to William and Mary (McKinnon) Dickinson, on October 22, 1945, in Brantford, Ontario, Canada. He is survived by his loving and caring wife, of 57 years, Patricia (Labinski) Dickinson. Don and Pat were married on September 4, 1965 and were blessed with two children, daughter Kim (Dan) Michelini and son John Dickinson. They were further blessed with two grandchildren Samantha Michelini and Matthew Michelini. Don is also survived by his three younger siblings Marlene Renke, Cindy (late Paul) Manciero, and Ron (Sheila) Dickinson. Don was a good son, grandson, brother, cousin, husband, father, grandad, uncle, and friend. He will be missed by many. Don received his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. He worked as a Project Manager in manufacturing of specialty machines. In his free time, Don enjoyed spending time up north at our family cabin and working at his boat storage business. He also like to go fishing, snowmobiling and watching hockey. The Red Wings were his hometown team, but he especially loved watching his grandson play hockey. He coached his son’s little league baseball teams, worked on cars, and enjoyed going to the race track. He was very smart and helped his daughter get her trigonometry and calculus down pat. Don was a great provider for his family and loved us all very much. “Donnie” as his late nana, Ida (Garthwaite) Dickinson, called him loved his nana a lot to say the least. He lived in Canada until he was in 2nd grade. When he was in nursery school he would sneak out and run to his Nana and Grandad’s house. He loved to tell that story. His Nana spoiled him and he loved every single minute of it. He especially loved her “Scottish Shortbread” cookies. She made them for him whenever she came to The States. Don’s family will host a memorial service on Saturday, March 18, 2023, at 12:00 p.m. The service will be at the Wasik Funeral Home located at 35259-23 Mile Road in New Baltimore, Michigan. Reception to follow the at Tina’s Country House & Gardens. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Dementia Society of America in Don’s name.
